Which trades does AsphaltPavingIndex cover?

AsphaltPavingIndex covers 9 trade categories across the Greater Toronto Area, from full-depth parking lot construction and hot mix asphalt paving through sealcoating, saw-cut repairs, line marking, concrete curbs, subgrade work, catch basins and private roadway construction. Splitting the trades matters when a tender is written: a firm that paves lots is not automatically the firm you want rebuilding a catch basin or marking fire routes to the municipal standard. Behind the directory sits a dataset of 376 contractors scored on a published 0-100 score, at an average rating of 4.5★ across the 308 firms with 3 or more Google reviews. Every category hub ranks the firms working that trade, publishes benchmark unit rates from named GTA and municipal sources, and links straight to each firm's profile. Pick the scope below to see the ranked list, the areas covered and what the work benchmarks at.

What does parking lot paving cost in Toronto?

Standard commercial asphalt paving, contractor's published figure runs $3.00–$6.00 per square foot (CAD) in the GTA, according to Empire Paving (Toronto and GTA commercial paving contractor). Rates are quoted before 13% HST, and a small lot can still land on a mobilization minimum rather than a rate.

Every figure on this site traces to a named GTA contractor, a municipal unit-price estimate or a published cost guide, so a bid can be read against something other than the last bid. Each guide breaks out the line items, the Ontario rules that move the price, and the questions that decide whether two bids are even comparable.

Which paving firms sit highest across the whole GTA?

Ranked on the published score

These are the 8 highest-ranked contractors across the Greater Toronto Area right now, ordered by the published score rather than by who paid. Every card shows the real rating, the review count, that score out of 100, what the firm says about itself on its own website, and a direct way to reach the firm. Use it as a starting list, then price the scope properly against three written bids.

Where across the GTA does AsphaltPavingIndex cover?

264 of the 376 listings are filed under a specific Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA municipality. That matters for more than travel time: fire route markings, accessible parking layout and right-of-way permits are set by the municipality the site sits in, so a bid list should match it. The other 112 publish no street address on Google, or sit in a municipality outside the ones covered here; their cards say “service area not published” rather than guessing at a location, and you will find them on the full contractor index. Coverage spans 36 areas, from downtown Toronto and the boroughs of North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke out to municipalities like Mississauga, Vaughan and Markham. By listed contractor count, the deepest coverage right now is in Toronto (63), Vaughan (32), Brampton (21), Mississauga (20), Burlington (18). Each area hub ranks the local firms in every trade on the published score, so you can shortlist near the property and reach the ones that fit.

How does AsphaltPavingIndex work?

Three steps, and nothing to sign up for. Compare firms ordered on the published score, check what the scope benchmarks at, then send a request to the ones that fit, or phone them directly where a number is published. The whole directory is free to read.

  1. Compare ranked contractors

Open any of 9 trades, or the area the property sits in, and see firms ordered on the published score rather than ad spend.

  2. Check the benchmark rates

Every trade has a cost guide built from named GTA contractors and municipal unit-price estimates, so you can read a bid against something real.

  3. Send a request

A company that has claimed its listing publishes the number it wants you to call. For every other row, the request form reaches AsphaltPavingIndex.

How does AsphaltPavingIndex decide the order?

Each firm gets one published score out of 100, added up from three parts. Reviews and reputation are worth 45: a Bayesian-adjusted Google rating that blends the firm's own rating with the dataset average of 4.5★ using a 10-review prior, so a rating only approaches its raw star value once real volume backs it up, plus review volume on a log scale. What a firm states on its own website is worth 30, and every one of those findings carries the sentence it was read from. Its website and record are worth 25: whether the site answered when we read it, the themes its reviewers keep repeating, photographs, phone and hours. A 5.0-star firm with 4 reviews and no website therefore ranks below a 4.8-star firm with 300 reviews, a live site and photos, because volume, record and what each firm publishes all favour the second. Nothing here can be bought, and the method is identical for all 376 listings.

What should you ask before awarding a parking lot contract?

These are the questions that decide whether two bids on the same lot are actually comparable. Each one closes a gap where a price looks lower because something was left out.

  1. What is the unit rate per square metre, and what is the mobilization minimum below it? Benchmark rates for this work
  2. How is the lot phased so tenants and deliveries keep access throughout?
  3. Which mix and how many lifts, at what compacted thickness each?
  4. Can you produce a WSIB clearance certificate and a liability certificate naming us?
  5. Which comparable sites can we drive and see, and who do we call there?

AsphaltPavingIndex questions, answered

How does AsphaltPavingIndex order the contractors on a page?

Position comes from one published score out of 100, added up from three parts: a Bayesian-adjusted Google rating and review volume (45), what each firm states on its own website (30), and its website and record (25). Because review volume is weighed, a 5.0 on 4 reviews cannot outrank a 4.8 on 300. No contractor can pay for a better position, and the full formula is published on the methodology page.

Does AsphaltPavingIndex sell leads or take a cut of the work?

No referral fee on this site, so nothing you read here is shaped by who pays. There is a request form, and what you send through it reaches AsphaltPavingIndex. Your details are not published on the site and are not sold. Everything else the site shows about a firm comes from public Google Maps records, and no company has paid for its place in any list. 358 of the 376 listings have a phone number on the public record. When you find the firm you want, you send it a request from its profile; a company that has claimed its listing also publishes the number it wants you to call. All 376 records and every cost guide are free to read, and listing is free for contractors too.

Which areas does AsphaltPavingIndex cover?

AsphaltPavingIndex covers the Greater Toronto Area, from downtown Toronto and the boroughs of North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke out to 36-plus neighbourhoods and municipalities including Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham and Oakville. The dataset holds 376 contractors, 360 of them placed in one or more of 9 trade categories on the evidence their own listing and website carry, mapped so a bid list matches the site's own municipality and its bylaws. The rest are listed by area and searchable, but no category is asserted for them.

How current is the review data behind these rankings?

Every rating and review count comes from public Google Maps data, refreshed for the August 2026 dataset. The average rating is 4.5 stars across the 308 contractors carrying 3 or more Google reviews, which is the floor this site averages over so a lone 5-star review cannot move the figure. Pages are re-ranked as new reviews land, so positions track current record rather than a snapshot taken once.
