About AsphaltPavingIndex

Last updated: By The Pavement Desk

AsphaltPavingIndex is an independent directory of Greater Toronto Area parking lot paving and asphalt maintenance contractors, ordered on a published 0-100 score and paired with unit rates traced to named sources. It is built for the person assembling a bid list on a commercial property, not for a shopper. This page explains who compiles it, how it works, and the editorial rules that keep the order honest.

Who compiles AsphaltPavingIndex?

AsphaltPavingIndex is compiled and maintained by The Pavement Desk, an independent editorial team. We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any listed contractor, and no contractor can pay for a better position. The team builds the dataset from public Google Maps records, applies the ranking formula published on the methodology page, and reviews every dataset and cost guide before it goes live.

What does AsphaltPavingIndex do?

Two things, and deliberately no more. First, it orders 376 contractors across 9 trade categories on a published 0-100 score over their reviews, what each firm states on its own website and how complete its record is, so a bid list starts from a record rather than an ad. Second, it researches what each scope benchmarks at in the GTA and publishes the figures with the source attached, so two bids can be read against the same numbers. A claimed listing publishes its own phone number; an unclaimed one carries a request form that reaches AsphaltPavingIndex. Either way, open the profile and add the firm to your tender package.

How does AsphaltPavingIndex make money without selling position?

It is free to read and free to be listed on. Today the directory earns nothing; if it ever does, revenue will come from clearly labelled promotion kept separate from the ordering on purpose. No contractor can buy a higher position, ever. Keeping money and ranking apart is the whole point, because a directory you cannot trust is worth nothing to someone comparing five-figure bids.

What are AsphaltPavingIndex's editorial standards?

Four rules apply on every page. Position is never for sale, review data comes only from public Google Maps profiles, every price is attributed to a named source, and anyone can request a correction. Those standards are what let us say these 376 listings are ordered on record alone.

  • No paid placement

Position comes from a transparent, published formula. Nothing on this site is a paid slot, and there is no advertising product to buy.

  • Google review data

Stars and review counts are read off Google Maps and republished unchanged. Nobody here writes a review, pays for one, edits one or asks a paving contractor to chase one.

  • Named price sources

Every rate cites the specific GTA contractor, municipal cost estimate or published guide it came from, so you can check it yourself.

  • Open corrections

Anything wrong gets fixed or removed. The correction and listing-removal process is set out in full on the contact page.

What does AsphaltPavingIndex not verify?

This is worth stating plainly, because the reader here is awarding real work. A position on this site is not a credential. AsphaltPavingIndex does not confirm any contractor’s WSIB clearance, liability coverage, bonding capacity or municipal licence, and does not inspect completed work. Ask every bidder for a current WSIB clearance certificate and a liability certificate naming the property, and call the property manager at two comparable sites before you award.

What is in the AsphaltPavingIndex dataset?

376 firms that pave, seal, patch, mark or grade a surface somewhere in the GTA, sorted into 9 trades across 36 mapped areas. Of those, 308 carry enough Google reviews to score: they run 4.5 stars on average, the middle firm has 22 reviews behind it, and 52.3% sit at 4.8 stars or better. Where Google publishes a street address inside a covered municipality, the firm is filed under a Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA municipality, which is what lets a bid list match the bylaws the site is actually governed by. Where it does not, the firm carries no area rather than a guessed one.

How do I reach the AsphaltPavingIndex team?

For a correction, a listing-removal request, or a question about how a figure was sourced, the contact page sets out the process and what to include. If you are looking to price work, do not write to us: most listings carry the contractor's own phone number, and calling it is faster.
