Quote FAQs

Is AsphaltPavingIndex free to use?

Yes, and nothing on this site is ever charged to a property owner. A listing is free too, and no company can buy a better position: the order on every list comes from a published formula, and there is no advertising slot on this site. When you send this form, we pass your job to one of the highest-scoring companies listed in your area so they can quote it.

Who will contact me after I submit?

One paving contractor. We read what comes in and pass your name, phone number and description of the job to one of the highest-scoring companies listed in your area, and they call you about it. Your details are not published, not sold, and not sent to a list of companies to fight over. Our privacy policy sets out exactly how your information is handled, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

How late in the year can asphalt still be laid?

Hot-mix asphalt needs the ground and the air warm enough to compact properly, so the practical GTA season runs roughly from spring into late autumn, and the plants close for the winter. Work pushed too late gets a surface that never compacts correctly and fails early. If you are asking in November, a contractor being straight with you may tell you to wait until spring, and that is a good sign rather than a brush-off.

Resurface or rebuild, and how do I tell which I need?

If the base underneath is sound, a new surface course over the top is far cheaper and can last years. If water is getting into the base, or you have alligator cracking and potholes that keep coming back in the same places, resurfacing buries the problem for a season and then it returns. Ask each contractor which they are quoting and why, because two prices far apart usually means they are quoting two different jobs.

How do you choose which company gets my request?

By the same published score that sets the order of every list on this site, filtered to companies that work in your area and do the kind of work you described. Nobody pays to be picked, and no company can raise their own score by submitting anything to us. We do not check licences, insurance or WSIB coverage, so ask for those before you sign anything.
